Our Version of Elf on a Shelf

To be honest, Elf on a Shelf kind of creeps me out.  However, I love the tradition and fun of it.  We have found a way to make it work for our family.

Meet our sock money, Purple.  She ( Ila decided she was a girl) hides every night for us to find her.  Ila knows we are the ones hiding her and she even gets to participate some nights in the hiding.  Dru hid Purple before he left for work this morning and when Ila found her, she laughed so hard I thought she might cry, and for those that know Ila, laughs don't come easy, she makes you work for it.  She said, "Daddy is so silly!" and she immediately hid Purple for Dru to find her in the morning.

Purple doesn't watch Ila and she doesn't report to anybody whether Ila has been good or bad.  I'm actually very impressed with the creativity of some moms I've seen set up scenerios where their elf has been mischievous.  However, Purple does not go about at night making messes for me to clean up.  She hides out in the open for us to find.

I love that we have found a way for this tradition to be a part of our family.  I kind of like that we have made it our own.  I hope Purple makes our family laugh for years and years to come!

What traditions have you tweaked to work for your family?
